1. First step of acid-fast staining procedure. Applying carbolfuchsin stain to bacterial smear and heating over water bath for 3 - 5 minutes; 2. Rinsing slide after application of crystal violet counterstain; 3. Acid-fast stained slide with + control (Mycobacterium) on left, negative contol (nonacid fast bacteria) on right and unknown in center.

Applying Carbol Fuchsin to Bacterial Smear Over Water Bath
